Robert Burns Marathon

The Robert Burns Marathon held on behalf of our Funds was a great success, Ian Buick, formerly of Dunning and now of Berwick upon Tweed delighted shoppers at The Crieff Road Tescos for three hours reciting Burns poems without being prompted, occasionally customers would stop to chat to him and put him off but back he went roughly to where he had been and carried on. The staff were in good form and kept the banter going especially when he started to look for ’a louse’ in the hair or hats of shoppers. The children loved “to a mouse” and one nine year old boy stood for half an hour listening to the poems, his mother just had to wait patiently and in the end he informed everyone that he had won the prize for Burns reciting at school so if he got some poems off by heart he could help.

A lot of interest and goodwill was created about the Kincladie Wood and Dunning Community Trust and many Tesco Customers who asked questions, especially those from rural areas took an interest in what may happen in their own communities, when parts of their own areas may go up for sale and are lost to them for all sorts of reasons.

After the three hour task with the help of Carol Dorsett, David & Elspeth Pentland it was a great relieve that the collecting buckets had lots of pennies in them…… Ian came back to Dunning to count, along with Ted Dorsett and his wife Janet, his takings
Which amounted to £278.……..a very worthy result.

Our very grateful thanks to Ian and to Tesco for their support.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Paul and Pauline Cookson arranged a January Saturday morning “Bring your Christmas Tree have it shredded and give Dunning Community Trust along with Tsunami a donation.

Lots of trees arrived along with lively youngsters all ready to see their used Christmas trees turned into shavings which in turn will be put to good use in the play park at the Dunning School. Some of the parents brought hot drinks so it became more of a social event which was wonderful.

David Methven, Kildinny loaned the shredder and Ian Philip, our Vice Chairman provided the tractor and bogie transport.

£150 was the donation we received … a great effort by everyone involved on a dreech morning.

Woodclearing and Bird Boxes

The Carol Evening Amongst Friends

This event was held on Sunday 18th December 2005 went off very well with a lovely warm Duncrub Chapel and the ambience as you entered gave you a feeling of anticipation thanks to Wilma and James Marshall for the Christmas décor and Elizabeth Fletcher who embellished the windows. The candles added to the atmosphere and the Christmas tree sparkled.

The Chairman made the up- to- date announcements about the Trust and the evening began with the singing of Carols ably led by Janet Crowe, Karen Downes, Alan MacFarlane and Alan Kelman as a quartet with Grace MacFarlane at the keyboard. A “Friends” poem, a Christmas greeting from Malawi and a letter with greetings from Australia from a couple related to The Wilson’s of Kippen House who had just happened to attend last years DPHS’ Service were read.

The Quartet sung a very moving Bach piece, and we all wound up singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” A very nice buffet with hot mulled wine followed, all bountifully provided by hospitable members which went down very well with lots of chat especially about everybodies personal Christmas plans ……..a very successful evening.

After expenses the profit for our funds is £432.23p. Our grateful thanks to Wilma and James Marshall for all their help and making this all possible.
