The cleared fence along the road

1. Fence clearing

On a fine Saturday morning in early February a working party removed the ramshackle fence running alongside the B934. A welcome improvement. The plan is to leave the roadside unfenced for a year to see if fencing is really necessary.

2. Entrance Pathway

Work started in the autumn to improve the entrance to the wood from the track to the Water Treatment works. A new entrance was made off the track to avoid having to go into the field. The mud at the Roman Ditch was bridged over with piping and gravel. The work will be finished off in the spring when the ground has dried out. In addition the Trust has been advised by Perth & Kinross Council that a new footpath from the village to Kincladie has been budgeted for 2008/2009

3. Carol Service

A successful and enjoyable carol evening was held in Duncrub Chapel on 17th December ( courtesy of Mr & Mrs Marshall). As well as the community singing, a group of local ‘artistes’ provided some ‘specials’. Mulled wine and nibbles completed the evening. Many thanks to all those who donated goodies, which enabled the Trust to raise over £400 for its funds.

4. Dogs

Kincladie is a great place for exercising your dog – plenty of snuffles, smells and places for them to read the news. However the wood will also be used for a number of school projects involving pupils from Dunning, Auchterarder, Aberuthven and Blackford there is to be a Forest School session on 17/18th March and on 27th March, about 80 pupils will be taking part in a Primary 7 Woodland challenge. For this reason, the Trust would like to improve hygiene. A ‘poo’ bin will be appearing shortly at the entrance and it would be appreciated if dog owners could ‘bag it and bin it’

This will be followed up on the 16th with a visit to the wood see the real thing ( it will depend on what sort of summer we have since this will impact on the fungus development). There will be a nominal charge of £1.00 for non members.

ii) Members Summer garden Party

Planned for Saturday 13th July. Location still to be confirmed.

6. Management Group

The Kincladie Management Group, who organise operational matters within Kincladie Wood on behalf of the Directors, are working on a 5 year plan about what should be done in the wood e.g what trees should be felled, what species should be used for replanting, what pathway improvements, if any, should be carried out. The group is keen to hear members views, even although this question was asked two years ago, about what they would like to see done in the woodland ( doing nothing is a valid option !!) Bill Howie leads this group and can be contacted on 01764 684476

7. Bird Boxes

Bill Howie and John Bancewicz has updated the information on the sponsored bird boxes - more information here

8. And finally
